Cybersecurity Services for Small Business in Montreal
Small businesses in Montreal get probed by the same automated tools as large companies, with nobody watching. A stale plugin, a missing security header or an unauthenticated email domain is enough. We offer practical, defensive cybersecurity for companies with a website, a web application or customer data, and no security team.
DaniMaster is a Montreal software team that hosts and maintains dozens of domains. We built an automated monthly security review for every one of them and apply the same checks, fixes and monitoring to client systems. No fear tactics, no offensive hacking, just measurable hardening and a clear report.
What we cover
We work on the defensive side only: find weaknesses, fix them, keep watching.
- Security review of websites and web apps. We check TLS, security headers, exposed files, admin panels, forms and APIs, and deliver a prioritized fix list.
- Hardening. Correct headers (CSP, HSTS and related), modern TLS only, firewall rules that close unused ports, rate limiting and locked-down admin access.
- Email authentication. SPF, DKIM and DMARC configured and monitored so your domain cannot be spoofed easily.
- Secure development fixes. Repairs to authentication, session handling, access control, file uploads and payment flows, in code we wrote or you inherited.
- Monthly monitoring. Automated checks every month, with history, tickets and an email only when something new appears.
- Incident response basics. A written plan for who does what when something goes wrong, and help containing a live incident.
- Law 25 obligations. Mapping personal data, breach notification steps and the security measures the law expects.
How we work
Discovery. We list every domain, server, application and third-party service you depend on. Most businesses find two or three they had forgotten. We agree on scope in writing before any testing.
Design. We run the initial review and rank findings by real risk to your business, not by scanner severity alone. You get a plain-language report and a fix plan ordered by impact.
Build. We apply the fixes: configuration changes, code repairs, DNS records, firewall rules. Where a fix belongs to your host or another developer, we write exact instructions.
Test. Each fix is verified from the outside, the way an attacker would see it, and from the inside against your access rules.
Launch. Monitoring goes live. The first monthly review sets the baseline.
Support. Every month after that, the review runs on its own. You hear from us only when something changes, a certificate nears expiry or a new vulnerability affects your stack.
Security work we run every month
We built our security practice for ourselves before offering it to clients in Montreal.
Every domain we host goes through an automated monthly review. It checks TLS certificates, security headers, exposed files such as backups, DNS records including SPF, DMARC and DKIM, firewall exposure of every open port, and vulnerability scans of every Docker container. Results keep history, so we see when something changed. Findings become tickets, and a status email goes out only when something new needs attention. A source-cited knowledge base built from OWASP, NIST and CISA guidance backs the review, so fixes follow published standards.
FacilInvoice, our bilingual invoicing SaaS, shows the development side. Sessions use signed tokens. Requests are rate limited. Interac e-Transfer reconciliation verifies the cryptographic signature of incoming bank emails before any invoice is marked paid, because a forged payment notice is a real attack.
These are the same checks and habits we bring to your systems.
What it costs and how long it takes
Prices depend on how many domains, applications and servers are in scope and how much needs fixing. Ranges in Canadian dollars:
- Website security review (one site, one domain): $900 to $2,500, one to two weeks.
- Web application security review with code-level findings: $3,000 to $12,000, two to four weeks depending on size.
- Hardening and fixes: often $1,500 to $10,000. Configuration work is quick. Rewriting authentication or an upload flow takes longer.
- Email authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) setup and monitoring: $500 to $1,500.
- Monthly monitoring: $150 to $600 per month depending on the number of domains and applications.
- Incident response: hourly, with a retainer option for faster response.
We do not sell fear. If your site is a brochure with no logins or forms, we will say so and quote a small review. If you process payments or hold client files, expect the higher ranges because the review goes deeper.
Why a Montreal security partner
Law 25 is Quebec law, and it applies to any business holding personal information about Quebec residents. It requires a person responsible for privacy, an inventory of personal data, reasonable security measures, and notification of the Commission d'accès à l'information and affected people when a breach presents a risk of serious injury. We help you meet these obligations in practice: knowing where data lives, locking it down and writing a breach procedure in advance.
Bilingual reports. Findings and plans come in French or English, whichever your team and auditors read.
Same time zone. Incidents do not wait. A Montreal team responds during your business hours and meets in person when needed.
Canadian hosting. On request we deploy and back up on servers in Canada, which simplifies privacy conversations with your clients.
Honest scope. We are defenders, not penetration testers for hire. We refer you to a specialized firm when a formal penetration test is needed.
Who needs this
An accounting or legal office in Montreal stores client files in a web portal built years ago by someone no longer around. Nobody knows if it is patched. We review it, fix what is dangerous and monitor it monthly.
An online store accepts payments and has had a few strange orders. We check the payment flow, admin access and upload points, then add rate limiting and alerts.
A company sends invoices by email and clients keep receiving fake ones that look real. SPF, DKIM and DMARC with enforcement, plus a short notice to clients, usually stops the spoofing.
A startup is about to sign an enterprise client whose procurement team sent a security questionnaire. We fill the gaps, document controls and produce the evidence they ask for.

Do you do penetration testing or ethical hacking?
We do defensive work: reviews, hardening, monitoring and fixes. Our reviews show what an attacker sees from outside, but we do not run attack simulations or exploit systems. When a client needs a formal penetration test, we refer them to a specialized firm and then fix what it finds.
What does Law 25 require from a small business?
At minimum: name a person responsible for personal information, know what personal data you hold and why, protect it with reasonable measures, and notify the Commission d'accès à l'information and affected people when a breach poses a risk of serious injury. We help with the technical side and the written procedures.
How is monthly monitoring different from a one-time audit?
An audit is a snapshot. Certificates expire, software gets new vulnerabilities and settings drift afterwards. Monthly monitoring re-runs the checks automatically, keeps history so we see what changed, and opens a ticket when something new appears. You only receive an email when action is needed.
We think we have been hacked. What should we do first?
Do not wipe anything yet. Change admin and email passwords from a clean device, enable two-factor authentication, and note what you saw. Then call us. We help contain the issue, preserve evidence, find how access happened and restore clean copies. If personal data was exposed, we guide you through Law 25 notification.
